Training with the Hex Bar / Trap Bar 30 mm
A Hex Bar 30 mm is a special type of barbell and, in contrast to the conventional version, has six corners (hexagon). The trap bar was originally developed for strongman sports to be able to move particularly heavy weights. When performing exercises with a trap bar, the strain on the spine and joints is minimized. Essentially, any exercise that can be done with a normal 30 mm barbell can also be done with a hex bar. The big advantage of a trap bar, however, is the more even weight distribution. The trainee stands in the center of the bar and thus exactly on the center of gravity. This allows for better distribution across different muscle groups and thus an increase in power output.
More strength means greater stimulus, which in turn results in increased muscle growth. This entire effect is favored by the natural hand position. While with a conventional barbell you have to twist your wrists, with a trap bar you can grip downwards naturally. It is not uncommon for twisting to lead to long-term injuries and increased wear and tear on the joints. Among the most popular exercises with a hex bar are deadlifts and the farmer's walk. The latter is otherwise preferably performed with dumbbells. However, with dumbbells, the weight can usually only be increased in 2kg increments per side. When training with a trap bar, on the other hand, the weight can be increased in arbitrarily large increments.
Are you training with bumper plates and your sleeves are not long enough? Then we have just the thing for you – our ATX® Hex Bar XL with extra long plate sleeves.
